ANECDOTES IN PEOPLE´S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

 

1.Flowers are not a suitable present in China. They are usually given to the sick. Also white, blue colors and black, are associated with death and funerals in China. Sending four white flowers to a Chinese will almost certainly make him or her cry. Four is an unlucky number!

2. In the Far East if someone gives you a business card you can not put it in your trouser pocket. The correct thing would be to put it in your suit pocket or even better in your wallet.

3. If the Chinese organize a party, the host should say when the party has finished. If not, the guests will remain the whole night untill they are thrown out. It is impolite to leave the party before the end.

4. We know that mourning is identified in China with the white color, whereas in the Western custom it is precisely the opposite, black.
